Industrial and commercial sectors in southern provinces and cities continue their diligent efforts to ensure the security of electricity and fuel supplies, aiming to maintain the momentum of economic growth during the final quarter of the year and achieve double-digit growth targets. The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a joint conference to discuss mechanisms for enhancing regional cooperation and mobilizing resources to support economic development.
Official data indicates that the industrial production index in the region recorded significant growth during the first nine months of the year compared to the same period last year, exceeding the national average. This acceleration in production activity has contributed to a significant increase in the demand for energy and electricity to meet the needs of vital sectors and industrial zones.
Measures to ensure fuel and electricity supplies
Competent government authorities confirmed that securing energy supplies and the petroleum product sector is at the top of the agenda, with the necessity of closely monitoring data, stock indicators, and distribution chains. Concerned ministries are working in coordination with the electricity sector to develop operational plans for the transmission network and avoid any potential outages, especially with increasing consumption during peak seasons and holidays.
Regarding infrastructure for fuel storage and distribution, the southern provinces and cities possess a vast network of storage depots and fuel stations, which have had their efficiency enhanced and been linked to electronic billing systems to ensure transparency. Local authorities are also accelerating the implementation of new and renewable energy projects, including solar and wind power plants and natural gas projects, to enhance power generation capacities and meet rising demand.
Market challenges and future prospects
The region faces some challenges related to rising energy and logistics costs due to global geopolitical variables, as well as potential pressures on supply chains and local operating expenses. Despite these difficulties, regulatory and local authorities are seeking to coordinate efforts to strengthen the local market, support exports, and develop sustainable energy sources to ensure the maintenance of the South's leading role in the national economic development path.
