The Mediterranean Offshore Conference and Exhibition (MOC 2026) concluded its activities in Cairo, where the final recommendations focused on the necessity of accelerating research and exploration activities and developing new discoveries, while working to connect them to production operations as quickly as possible to enhance energy supplies.
The conference, which was held under the theme 'Egypt as a Key Pillar for Energy Security in the Mediterranean Region', witnessed broad participation including about 2,000 professionals and 3,000 visitors, in addition to the presence of more than 25 sponsoring companies and 30 exhibiting entities. The three-day discussions included 150 speakers presenting 104 technical and research papers across 25 technical sessions and 11 strategic sessions.
Enhancing Production and Developing Investment
Participants recommended maximizing the utilization of existing fields, especially mature fields, by applying modern technologies, improving reservoir management, and increasing well efficiency. The conference also emphasized the importance of improving the investment climate by updating contractual and economic models to increase competitiveness and solidify trust with international partners, and directing investments toward priority projects that contribute to accelerating production rates.
Within the framework of the regional role, the conference called for utilizing Egypt's advanced infrastructure for receiving, transporting, processing, and liquefying natural gas, which supports linking East Mediterranean resources to regional and international markets, and enhancing integration between exploration and trade activities.
Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence
Technology emerged as a pivotal element in the conference recommendations, where the importance of expanding the use of artificial intelligence applications and advanced analytics in exploration operations, reservoir assessment, and operational planning was emphasized. It was also stressed that there is a need to develop data management and governance systems, and to strengthen cybersecurity to protect critical systems in the energy sector.
Regarding sustainability, the discussions focused on reducing operational costs and improving asset performance, while expanding solutions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and improving resource efficiency, supporting local manufacturing, and developing supply chains and technical services associated with the sector.
Empowering Youth and Connecting Education to Industry
The conference dedicated space to connecting university education outputs with the changing needs of the labor market, where ways to develop curricula and training programs were discussed to keep pace with rapid developments in the industry, especially in the fields of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. It was also proposed to form joint working groups between the Ministry, universities, and companies to bridge skill gaps and expand practical training opportunities for students to ensure the preparation of a generation capable of leading the future of energy.
