An Austrian Airlines flight heading from Tel Aviv to Vienna was forced to make an emergency landing in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, following a report of a bomb threat on board while in flight.

According to available information, the flight, bearing the code OS82 and operated by an Airbus A320, was diverted to Sofia International Airport after the flight crew received a security warning near the Romanian border. Upon detecting the alert, the situation was handled according to established emergency protocols to ensure the safety of everyone.

Tight security measures and safe landing

Bulgarian officials reported that a fighter jet from the Bulgarian Air Force escorted the civilian aircraft closely until it landed safely at Sofia Airport. A crisis management headquarters was established to deal with the immediate event, and the relevant authorities began comprehensive security checks and inspections of the aircraft and its contents.

Official data confirmed that the plane was carrying a total of 51 passengers, along with 6 crew members. All passengers and crew were evacuated safely immediately after the plane landed, with no injuries reported. Media reports indicated that among the passengers on the plane was a youth delegation on their way to participate in events related to the United Nations.

The competent authorities are continuing investigations to uncover the circumstances of the security threat and the nature of the warning received by the flight crew, while security measures remain ongoing to ascertain all details of the incident and ensure the aircraft is completely free of any risks threatening public safety in the civil aviation sector.
