The Belgian DEME Group has joined as a new participant in the PosHYdon pilot project for hydrogen production. The company will provide the dedicated hydrogen unit for installation on the Q13a platform operated by Neptune.
Energy systems integration in the North Sea
The pilot project aims to achieve integration among three main energy systems in the North Sea region: offshore wind energy, offshore gas, and offshore hydrogen, by producing hydrogen from seawater on board the Q13a platform.
Strategic partnerships and international expansions
This step comes at a time when the DEME Group has confirmed its expertise in the field of green hydrogen production, having recently concluded new partnerships through its subsidiary DEME Concessions in the ports of Ostend in Belgium and Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman.
Industrial alliance for project development
The PosHYdon project is an initiative led by the Dutch association Nexstep for decommissioning and reuse, and the TNO organization for applied engineering, in close cooperation with the industrial sector. DEME is the latest partner to join the project, following Neptune's announcement in April 2020 regarding the participation of Gasunie, Noordgastransport BV, NOGAT BV, and Eneco.
The Q13a-A platform includes partners EBN.B.V with 40%, and TAQA Offshore B.V with 10%.
