The US Energy Secretary announced that plans to ease sanctions on Russian exports will be exclusively limited to the diesel sector, in a move aimed at reshaping global energy flows and ensuring market stability amid ongoing geopolitical tensions linked to the Ukrainian crisis. These developments come as global markets assess the impacts of decisions related to fuel supplies.

The US Energy Secretary pointed out that oil flows coming from the Gulf region have recorded a noticeable recovery, returning to about eighty percent of pre-conflict levels, which contributed to easing pressures on global energy supplies and compensating for part of the potential shortage in international markets and meeting growing consumption needs.

Motives of the US Administration and Presidential Decision

For his part, US President Donald Trump emphasized that the decision regarding exempting some Russian exports from sanctions and tariffs stems from a broader strategy aimed at keeping Moscow actively engaged in the negotiation path aiming to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, stressing his refusal to take any unilateral measures that might push the Russian side to withdraw from peace talks.

Trump explained through a post on his digital platform that his approach is based on finding a lasting political settlement, considering that avoiding unjustified escalatory steps represents a fundamental pillar for dealing with the current crisis, and ensuring the stability of global oil and gas markets which are directly affected by the path of economic and political sanctions imposed on Moscow as one of the most prominent Western pressure tools.
