Canal de Isabel II has officially joined the Spanish Association of Large Consumers of Electric Energy in the Services Sector, in a move aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in the fields of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This approval came unanimously during the association's ordinary general assembly meeting, making the company a prominent member combining massive energy consumption with support for low-carbon transition pathways and renewable energy production.
Enhancing energy efficiency in the water sector
The massive infrastructure associated with urban water cycle management, which includes water purification plants, wastewater treatment, and pumping stations, requires the consumption of huge amounts of electrical energy to operate efficiently. At the same time, the company has been keen to develop and equip various facilities to generate electricity based on integrated operations compatible with water management, allowing it to play a strategic role as a major consumer and producer of clean energy at the same time, and contributing to providing innovative solutions that support competitiveness and sustainability.
Expanding the base of major consumers and the cooperation network
With the joining of this vital company, the total number of major national companies operating under the association's banner rises to fourteen leading companies in various vital sectors, which include rail and air transport networks, telecommunications, postal services, and urban infrastructure. The total combined electricity consumption of these major companies is estimated at more than four percent of total electricity consumption nationwide, reflecting the strategic importance of this bloc in exchanging economic and operational knowledge related to the energy sector.
