A recent study indicates that building insulation plans and heat pumps are capable of generating about 50,000 jobs and achieving huge annual financial savings estimated at one billion pounds sterling in energy bills. In contrast, comparison with major oil extraction projects, such as the Rosebank field which provides only about 1,100 jobs, shows a clear trend in the energy sector towards declining investments in fossil fuels in favor of energy efficiency projects and sustainable solutions that meet modern environmental and economic requirements.

From Offshore Exploration to Digital Models

This shift in direction represents a radical transformation in the technical work paths for professionals and workers in the engineering sector. Energy retrofitting work requires the use of advanced and diverse technologies including laser scanning operations, the development of building information models with specific and clear levels of detail, and conducting accurate thermal simulations that support decision-making and justify various engineering solutions for facilities.

Architectural visualizations and engineering drawings are no longer just ordinary promotional presentation tools, but have become an essential, integrated element in decision-making processes, demand studies, and energy certificates that support resource consumption efficiency in various modern buildings and facilities.

Evolution of Labor Markets and the Shift Towards Simulation Software

Energy certificates and demand studies increasingly rely on digital twins of buildings, which raises the weight of simulation software and digital solutions in the project portfolio compared to traditional reliance on oil production and fossil fuel extraction. In this context, traditional assets and major projects are looking for opportunities to adapt to the requirements of the energy transition, confirming that the future of technical work is gradually leaning towards insulation solutions and sustainable digital innovations.
