Gold prices began the week's trading with a noticeable increase, benefiting from the decline in oil prices which contributed to easing inflation fears in global markets. As investors assess the monetary policy prospects of the US Federal Reserve, spot gold prices surpassed the $4182 per ounce barrier amid positive movements in precious metals markets.
The Impact of Oil Prices on the Yellow Metal
Spot gold recorded slight gains compared to the end of the previous week, coinciding with the rise of a gram of gold in the spot market to reach 6650.34 liras, while the silver ounce witnessed a clear upward move to trade at $57.53. Market analyses indicated that the drop in oil prices represents a supportive factor for the yellow metal by improving inflation expectations.
Readings explained that the sustained decline in oil prices or the drop in US Treasury bond yields represent positive developments for gold, given their role in reducing inflationary pressures and easing expectations regarding interest rates. In contrast, markets are closely watching economic data and upcoming monetary policy decisions.
Technical Levels and Technical Analysis of Gold
Technical analysis indicators for gold movements show that current levels are testing important resistance points, where the $4198 level stands out as a first station that may lead prices towards the target range between $4218 and $4225 per ounce. Previous movement patterns indicate the possibility of a sideways correction or a double bottom pattern supporting this upward trend.
On the other hand, technical readings indicate the presence of close support levels at $4162 per ounce, and in the event of breaking this level, prices may retreat towards the range extending between $4128 and $4145, amid investors' anticipation of market trends and upcoming economic data.
Energy Markets and Monetary Policy Developments
The recent decline in oil prices came against the backdrop of decisions regarding potential exemptions from sanctions and tariffs, which could contribute to boosting fuel supplies and easing price pressures. Despite this, inflation data indicates the continuation of some cost pressures, raising questions about the central banks' next steps.
Market data and investor expectations point to existing probabilities regarding the path of interest rates during the remainder of the year, as observers track key inflation indicators which are a primary benchmark for central bank decisions, alongside international financial institutions' assessments of central banks' moves to address economic pressures.
