Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned of the possibility that Russia might intensify sabotage and incitement operations against Poland and Ukraine in the coming period, noting the potential for a significant escalation before Christmas.
Security and Energy Threats
Tusk reported receiving alarming information from intelligence agencies in Poland, Ukraine, and allied nations, which necessitates taking threats from Moscow seriously. He explained that the risks are concentrated particularly on borders and rail routes relied upon for supplies of gas, oil, and food, which could increase the suffering of Ukraine, which is already facing challenges in the energy sector and a shortage of electricity and gas supplies as winter approaches.
Concerns Over Expansion of Operations
The Polish Prime Minister predicted that Poland might witness sabotage attempts or provocations that could be larger in scale than what has occurred previously. His warnings also extended to the Baltic states, which are also facing concerns about new provocations, suggesting that Russia is seeking to increase pressure to test the Europeans' ability to respond.
The Future of Europe and Ukraine's Stability
Tusk described the coming months as decisive for the future of Ukraine and all of Europe, emphasizing that the continent's stability is linked to Ukraine's ability to endure, noting that the fall of Ukraine would lead to extremely serious problems for everyone. He also confirmed the unity of European Union leaders on the issue of continuing to support Kyiv in light of international political changes.
