Schneider Electric and Air Liquide Egypt have launched a strategic community development project in the village of Al-Radwan, south of Port Said, aiming to promote sustainability and provide advanced solutions for the water, energy, and food sectors. This project comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the two sides to empower local communities and support them with innovative technical solutions that increase resource efficiency.
Smart solutions for rationalizing consumption and reducing emissions
The project relies on the EcoStruxure smart solutions suite and IoT technologies provided by Schneider Electric, with investment support from Air Liquide Egypt. The system includes two sustainable irrigation units powered by solar energy, where two pumping stations with a capacity of 26 kW each were installed, leading to the elimination of 80 traditional diesel-powered pumps and providing water needs for about 180 agricultural acres.
The project also includes a decentralized solar-powered drinking water treatment plant with a capacity of 16.5 kW, capable of producing 15 cubic meters of potable water per day. These installations contribute to reducing carbon emissions by more than 56 tons of CO2 annually, benefiting more than 15,000 residents in the area.
Supporting the local economy and the transition to sustainability
The project contributes to easing financial and environmental burdens on farmers by eliminating reliance on diesel, in addition to securing sustainable access to clean drinking water. Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric for North Africa and the Levant, emphasized that the project embodies the importance of integrating technology and effective partnerships in addressing societal and environmental challenges, and promoting a just energy transition.
For his part, Brian Shetty, General Manager of Air Liquide Egypt, pointed out that the initiative reflects a commitment to integrating innovation, social responsibility, and sustainable financing, in line with the Egyptian state's priorities in enhancing resource management efficiency and implementing smart infrastructure solutions to reduce the carbon footprint and improve the living conditions of Port Said residents.
