The Amman Stock Exchange continues its advanced steps toward enhancing climate-related financial disclosures, with strategic support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. This direction comes within the framework of continuing to apply the regulatory framework and elevating environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) standards, in strict alignment with approved international standards issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), especially relevant financial disclosure frameworks.
Proactive Steps Toward Institutional Sustainability
The Stock Exchange has worked on developing a comprehensive disclosure guide that serves as an essential practical reference for listed companies, helping them to effectively assess and report on climate-related risks and opportunities in accordance with best global practices. In a related context, the exchange management organized a series of specialized training programs and capacity-building workshops throughout the year to qualify listed companies and prepare them to deal with the growing requirements of environmental, social, and institutional disclosure at both local and international levels prior to entering the mandatory implementation phase.
Voluntary Disclosures Enhance Market Transparency
The current transitional phase witnessed a positive initiative represented by nine listed companies within the main index submitting climate disclosure reports on a voluntary basis. The list of participating companies includes an elite group of prominent financial institutions, service companies, and energy firms that were keen to publish their reports through the official electronic portal of the stock exchange to ensure complete transparency before regulatory authorities and investors.
This voluntary commitment by major listed companies reflects sector diversity and growing institutional awareness of the importance of managing climate risks and sustainability factors. These disclosures are gaining increasing importance for international institutional investors and sustainable funding funds that look for clear and transparent investment environments, which contributes to enhancing the resilience of the financial market and supports the country's comprehensive economic modernization process.
