Oil prices witnessed a noticeable decline in global markets concurrently with mixed performance of Asian market indicators, amid the continuation of the state of volatility suffering the technology sector stocks in various global exchanges. These developments come in light of investors interacting with international economic and political updates affecting the energy sector.
Global oil prices decline
Oil prices recorded a clear decrease in morning session dealings, as the benchmark Brent crude price for global oil dropped by a percentage exceeding one percent, and the US West Texas Intermediate crude price also declined. This decline came on the heels of a political decision represented in exempting Russia from a wide range of sanctions, especially those imposed on the Russian energy sector, which cast its shadow on supply and demand data in the markets.
Mixed performance of Asian markets and the technology sector
At the level of stock markets in Asia, the indicators recorded a clear divergence affected by a selling wave that hit technology companies' stocks and raised investors' fears regarding the sustainability of the artificial intelligence boom. In South Korea, the benchmark Kospi index rose supported by some leading stocks, while the Tokyo Stock Exchange witnessed a decline in the Nikkei 225 index affected by the drop in shares of chip manufacturing equipment and tech companies. In contrast, the Shanghai Composite Index recorded a slight rise following the release of Chinese economic data showing economic growth that exceeded expectations during the third quarter of the current year, while other markets continued their interaction with global trading movement and Western stock exchange data.
