Business activities in Spain witnessed a remarkable positive performance during the summer, with company revenues recording a 9.1% increase in August compared to the same period of the previous year. These figures, revealed by the National Statistics Institute, confirm the continuity of economic momentum in the country, even after excluding seasonal and calendar effects, which showed growth of 8.1%.
A record boom in the energy sector
The electricity supply, water, and waste management sector topped the list of the fastest-growing sectors in August, with companies operating in this field achieving a significant jump of 33.8% in their business volume, reflecting the pivotal role that energy plays in driving the Spanish economy. These results confirm that the energy sector was not merely a contributor, but the primary engine for the growth recorded during this period.
Comprehensive growth across economic sectors
The recovery was not limited to the energy sector, but spanned various segments of the Spanish economy. Extractive and manufacturing industries recorded an annual growth of 10.8%, while the trade sector saw an increase of 7.2%, and non-financial market-oriented services achieved growth of 4.1%. These indicators are of strategic importance to several Spanish regions, such as Aragon, where industry and logistics are fundamental pillars of its economic stability.
Monthly performance boosts optimism
When comparing on a monthly basis, data showed a 1.8% growth in business volume in August compared to July, after adjusting results for seasonal and calendar factors. All four major sectors recorded monthly increases, with energy once again leading the scene with 13.1% monthly growth, followed by industry at 2.1%. These data point to a sustainable upward trend in productivity and demand, which boosts confidence in the resilience of the Spanish economy and its ability to face cyclical fluctuations by enhancing the efficiency of vital sectors.
