The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is adopting an ambitious strategy aimed at raising the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix to reach 45% by 2030. This step comes within the framework of ongoing government efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels, in line with global trends toward reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable development goals.

Strategy for Transitioning to Clean Energy

This target represents an integral part of the Egyptian state's plan to enhance energy security by exploiting abundant natural resources, primarily solar and wind energy. The ministry is working to intensify its investments in the infrastructure projects necessary to connect renewable energy plants to the national electricity grid, in addition to improving the efficiency of existing grids to accommodate the expected increase in installed capacities from clean sources.

Economic and Environmental Feasibility

Expanding clean energy projects directly contributes to reducing the fuel import bill, thereby saving foreign currency and easing pressures on the traditional energy sector. On the environmental front, these investments contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the electricity sector, which enhances opportunities to attract foreign and domestic investments in green economy sectors and industries related to green hydrogen technology and water desalination.

The strategic vision is based on providing facilities and incentives for private sector investors to participate in the implementation of these projects, which creates new job opportunities and supports the localization of modern technology in the field of manufacturing electrical equipment and components required for renewable energy plants, making the electricity sector an engine for sustainable development in the country.
