Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a republican decree allocating a vast area of 763 thousand feddans in Matrouh Governorate, for the implementation of major renewable energy projects. This step comes within the framework of Egypt's national strategy aimed at expanding the use of clean energy sources and reducing reliance on traditional fuel, in line with sustainable development goals and Egypt's Vision 2030.
Enhancing the move towards green energy
Matrouh Governorate is one of the promising strategic regions in Egypt, given its vast desert hinterland and ideal climatic and geographical conditions for solar and wind energy investments. The allocation of this large area reflects the state's serious orientation towards transforming Egypt into a pivotal regional hub for the production and export of renewable energy, serving both local and international markets alike.
Supporting the economy and attracting investments
These projects contribute to strengthening the country's energy infrastructure, and open wide doors to attract more foreign and local investments specialized in green hydrogen and solar energy technologies. These investments are expected to provide thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, while driving industrial and economic development within the governorate and its neighboring regions.
The future of energy in Egypt
Egypt is taking rapid steps towards maximizing the utilization of its natural resources, as this decision represents strong support for electricity interconnection projects and the localization of clean energy industries. By providing the necessary land for investors and major companies, the government is working to remove obstacles facing giant projects that will secure the country's needs for clean electrical energy, ensure resource sustainability for future generations, and reduce environmentally harmful carbon emissions.
