Hyundai Engineering & Construction is moving to strengthen its cooperation with Australian energy companies, with the aim of expanding its business scope in the electricity grid and renewable energy sector within the local market.
Collaboration with AusNet to Develop Grid Infrastructure
Hyundai Engineering & Construction signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in Melbourne with AusNet, which specializes in energy networks in the state of Victoria, to collaborate on power transmission infrastructure projects, substations, and grid connectivity. This step comes to expand the scope of cooperation that the company began with AusNet last year through a previous Memorandum of Understanding, where the two parties agreed that new collaborations will include grid connectivity projects such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and data centers, in addition to the exchange of technical expertise and human resources in the fields of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), as well as operation and management.
Strategic Partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners
In a parallel move, Hyundai Engineering & Construction concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish company specializing in energy investment and management. This cooperation aims to identify renewable energy projects and associated infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia. CIP is active in the fields of wind energy, solar energy, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.
Business Expansion Amid Growing Energy Demand
These moves coincide with Australia's expansion in developing energy infrastructure, such as transmission networks and storage facilities, in line with the increasing share of renewable energy and rising demand for electricity. Construction companies are currently working to expand their business areas to include transmission, substations, and energy storage systems to keep pace with the needs of connecting generation facilities with consumption points. Hyundai supports this trend through its branch, which it established in Sydney in 2024 to strengthen its commercial base in the region.
