The Egyptian government categorically denied the validity of circulating reports regarding the issuance of new decisions related to the return of electrical load shedding for up to eight hours daily. Official authorities confirmed that the rumors spreading on social media platforms rely on quoting previous statements and interpreting them out of their true context dedicated to hypothetical analyses.

The truth about energy sector scenarios

The official clarifications came in response to posts attributed to the Cabinet of Ministers taking strict measures to cut off electricity for long periods during the coming phase. The Media Center of the Cabinet of Ministers explained that the ongoing controversy is due to the taking out of context of the Prime Minister's speech delivered during a specialized panel discussion on energy issues.

The speech included a review of purely hypothetical scenarios to deal with potential spikes in standard energy prices in global markets. The Prime Minister pointed out during the discussion that the financial challenges associated with oil prices reaching high levels put the economy before multiple choices that require careful study of general budget indicators.

Budget options and fuel needs

The hypothetical presentation explained options related to passing the increase on to the consumer or having the state bear the burdens with the additional funding pressures that imposes. The proposal also touched on the option of purchasing petroleum products within the limits of available resources, which is a hypothetical scenario that could theoretically lead to impacts on normal operational supplies, without turning into an actual decision on the ground.

In the same context, the concerned executive bodies are continuing their intensive efforts to secure the financial allocations necessary for the electricity sector regularly to avoid any outages. The competent authorities seek, in joint coordination, to procure the required petroleum shipments to operate generation plants with the maximum possible efficiency, ensure the stability of the national grid, and alleviate burdens on citizens in all governorates.
