The ECLA region concluded the public consultations regarding the Territorial Climate, Air, and Energy Plan (PCAET) on October 14, a document that defines the community's environmental ambitions for the coming years.
Ambitious Energy and Emissions Goals
The proposed plan includes raising the share of renewable energy from 19% to 54% between 2022 and 2030. The initiative also aims to increase the rate of greenhouse gas reduction from 34% to 38%, while striving to reduce energy consumption by 18% to 19%.
Work Pillars and Ecological Transition
The program includes 22 measures distributed across five main pillars, including energy renovation of buildings, improving the transport sector by encouraging alternatives to individual cars and promoting public transport, in addition to supporting local renewable energy production.
Adapting to Climate Change
The plan also focuses on enhancing the region's ability to adapt to climate change by addressing urban heat island phenomena, securing water supplies, preserving aquatic environments, as well as managing forests, agriculture, and natural risk prevention.
Next Stages for Adoption
After the consultation period ends, the collected feedback will be examined as part of formal procedures. The ECLA region is working to rectify discrepancies noted by authorities to ensure that objectives are aligned with national and regional targets before final adoption by the community council.
