President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in a panel discussion within the activities of the Egypt 2026 Forum, titled "The Egyptian Energy Trajectory: National Achievements and Future Prospects." The session was attended by high-level officials, including the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Finance, Electricity, and Petroleum, in addition to a select group of energy experts, company heads, and university professors.
Energy Sector Achievements and Strengthening National Grids
The session reviewed the progress in the energy sector over the past years, highlighting the successes achieved by the state in enhancing and strengthening the national electricity transmission grid. These steps aim to increase the grid's capacity to accommodate renewable energies and feed various development projects, in parallel with the development of electricity distribution networks. Achievements also included halting the decline in natural gas production and restoring growth rates, which contributed to securing the state's needs and enhancing the capabilities required to receive liquefied gas.
Geopolitical Challenges and Supply Chains
Participants discussed a range of current challenges, primarily the geopolitical disturbances at the global and regional levels, and their impacts on supply chains. The session addressed the measures taken by the state to mitigate the repercussions of these challenges and also included the presentation of citizens' visions and proposals regarding the energy sector in Egypt.
State Vision for Addressing Energy Crises and Sustainability
During his intervention, President Sisi noted that the forum aims to clarify facts related to the energy sector and the challenges facing the state, emphasizing the state's commitment to providing all energy resources continuously. He explained that the state has developed a comprehensive plan since 2014 to face energy crises, focusing on building an integrated infrastructure that relies on both traditional and renewable energy sources.
The President addressed the costs associated with establishing power generation plants, whether powered by fossil fuels or renewable energy, in addition to the cost of establishing distribution networks and control stations. He explained that the state bears the largest part of the true cost of energy in light of the global rise in prices, noting that bids in this sector require many years for their tangible results to appear.
A Call for Awareness and Action to Overcome Challenges
President Sisi emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding all aspects of the energy sector, noting that limited resources may push the state to borrow to ensure the continuity of services for citizens and the industrial sector. He called on the Egyptian people to stand by their country and continue working and producing to overcome all economic and geopolitical challenges facing the nation.
