Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, affirmed that the percentage of power current loss resulting from the transmission process from generation stations to distribution networks via transmission lines does not exceed 4 percent, stressing that this loss is purely technical in nature and not commercial.
Details of Technical Loss and Transmission Networks
The statements of the Minister of Electricity came during his participation in a panel discussion titled "The Egyptian Energy Journey: National Achievements and Future Prospects," as part of the Egypt Forum activities. He explained that the figures talking about the electricity loss rate reaching 20 percent are inaccurate, affirming that the usual technical loss in transmission lines amounts to only about 4 percent according to the approved technical measurements of the network.
Efforts to Develop the Energy Sector and the National Grid
The session reviewed the government efforts exerted over past years to develop the energy sector and enhance infrastructure, with a focus on strengthening the national grid for electricity transmission. These developments aim to ensure the grid's ability to absorb additional capacities produced from renewable energy sources, and to meet the increasing demand for electrical current in various governorates.
Energy Market Liberalization and Private Sector Participation
In a related context, the Minister of Electricity touched upon the state's plans to liberate the energy market and open the field for new investments. He pointed out the existence of about thirty-eight private sector companies operating in the fields of electricity connection, in addition to the presence of one hundred eighteen approved distributors who handle collection work and participate in projects to build new generation stations in cooperation with the concerned government entities to raise the efficiency of the system.
