Bondada Engineering Limited, specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works, has received a letter of intent from Gujarat Industrial Power Company to develop an advanced energy storage system based on 'Vanadium Redox' flow batteries. The project has a capacity of 20 MW with a storage power of up to 120 MWh, and it will be implemented within the company's natural gas power plant complex in Vadodara, Gujarat state.
Project Details and Implementation Phases
The scope of work for Bondada Engineering includes all aspects of the project, starting from engineering design and equipment supply to construction, in addition to the company's commitment to providing operation and maintenance services for the project for ten years. It is scheduled to complete all construction and operational phases within 18 months from the date of receiving the final award notice.
Importance of Vanadium Technology in Energy Storage
This project represents a strategic step for Bondada in its expansion path towards advanced energy storage technologies, and it is considered the largest of its kind in India in the field of vanadium flow batteries intended for grid connection. This technology is gaining increasing interest for its superior ability to store and discharge energy for long periods compared to traditional technologies, making it an ideal solution for supporting grid stability.
Enhancing Presence in the Renewable Energy Market
This new contract confirms the accumulated expertise gained by Bondada Engineering in this field, as it has previously worked on a similar project with a capacity of 100 MWh for NTPC Renewable Energy in the Khavda region. These projects contribute to establishing the company's position in the long-term energy storage systems market in India, which is witnessing rapid growth as part of the transition plans towards sustainable energy solutions.
