Global oil prices recorded a notable increase at the close of Thursday's trading, as Brent crude futures broke through the $113 per barrel barrier, reaching their highest levels recorded since last May. This significant rise comes amid a state of anxiety prevailing in international markets due to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region.

The Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Markets

Brent crude futures rose by $4.35, equivalent to a 4% increase, to settle at $113.17 per barrel at the close. In parallel, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude saw positive movements, with its futures rising by $2.32, a 2.39% increase, ending the session at $99.47 per barrel.

Supply Concerns and Energy Security

Markets attribute these price jumps to growing concerns about potential disruptions to vital crude oil supplies, especially in light of threats that may face the security of maritime corridors and the movement of oil tankers in the region. Global financial and economic institutions are closely monitoring the repercussions of these developments amidst warnings that the continuation of geopolitical unrest may impose additional pressures on global energy markets and directly affect international economic stability.

A state of anticipation continues in global markets regarding the possibilities of the conflict expanding, as supply and demand data remain closely linked to the state of stability in oil-producing and exporting regions, which explains the excessive price sensitivity to any news related to current geopolitical tensions.
