The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Djibouti is preparing to send a high-level delegation to represent it at the seventh edition of the South Sudan Oil & Power 2026 conference, scheduled to be held on November 24 and 25. The Djiboutian delegation will be led by the Director of Hydrocarbons, Wahib Ali Bouleh, as part of the two countries' efforts to strengthen cooperation ties in the oil and gas sector, expand trade infrastructure, and open new horizons for energy investment in East Africa.
Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Trade Corridors
The Djiboutian delegation's participation comes based on the previous cooperation agreement signed by both sides at the 2022 edition of the conference, in addition to the new trade corridor initiative aimed at improving South Sudan's access to global markets. Last year witnessed intense diplomatic meetings between officials from both countries to activate the White Nile trade corridor, which aims to develop river and dry port infrastructure in key cities such as Juba, Bor, Malakal, and Renk, and connect South Sudan to international trade routes through Djiboutian ports.
Developing Infrastructure and Supply Chains
Improving regional connectivity would contribute to strengthening supply chains for equipment for the oil and gas sector in South Sudan, alleviating logistical constraints, and facilitating cross-border petroleum trade. In return, Djibouti seeks to consolidate its position as a regional logistical and maritime gateway linking energy markets in East Africa with international investors and suppliers, providing real opportunities to translate bilateral partnerships into tangible commercial and investment projects.
