Indian authorities have begun implementing strict measures to enhance environmental safety standards, as it has been officially decided to link the procurement of fuel to the possession of a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate for vehicles. This decision comes into effect starting November 1st, as part of the nation's efforts to curb air pollution and reduce harmful emissions resulting from transportation.
Mechanism of implementing the new decision
Under the new rules, vehicle drivers will be required to present a valid emission inspection certificate when visiting fuel stations to refill their vehicle tanks. This step aims to ensure that all vehicles on the road comply with established environmental standards, as vehicles will undergo periodic inspections to ensure fuel combustion efficiency and reduce the proportion of environmentally polluting gases.
How to verify the certificate
To facilitate procedures for citizens, the concerned authorities have provided the ability to check the status of the emission certificate and its expiration date digitally via mobile phone. Vehicle owners can access the official electronic portals dedicated to transport services and enter the vehicle's license plate number to obtain all details related to the certificate's validity immediately, eliminating the need for drivers to carry paper documents at all times.
Environmental goals of the initiative
This step comes within a broader strategy to transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Authorities emphasize that adherence to these rules is a shared responsibility to contribute to lowering pollution levels in major cities, while encouraging vehicle owners to perform periodic maintenance on their car engines, which ultimately ensures better fuel efficiency and maintains environmental safety for the community.
