Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, affirmed that commemorating the victims of the genocide against the Palestinian people represents a renewal of the pledge to continue efforts to achieve justice and hold those responsible for crimes committed against civilians accountable. He explained that documenting and naming these crimes is an essential path to ensuring that perpetrators do not escape legal accountability.
Commemorating the Victims of Genocide in Cairo
Al-Yamahi's statements came during an event organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo to commemorate the victims of the genocide against the Palestinian people. He pointed out that the targeting of the Al-Ahli Arab "Baptist" Hospital in the Gaza Strip is evidence of the Israeli occupation's disregard for civilian lives, stressing that this incident must not pass without achieving justice.
Adopting October 17 as a Day for Victims
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament expressed his support for adopting October 17 of each year as a day to commemorate the victims of the genocide against the Palestinian people, considering this step as a guarantee that these crimes will not be forgotten. He emphasized the importance of systematic documentation of violations to facilitate the prosecution of those responsible for them according to international mechanisms, calling on the international community to take practical measures instead of merely issuing condemnations.
Demands to Empower International Investigators and Ensure Aid
Al-Yamahi called on the United Nations to fulfill its obligations towards the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation with judicial authorities and enable international investigators to access violation zones to uncover the facts. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the continuous flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and addressing the humanitarian repercussions resulting from military operations.
Parliamentary Diplomatic Moves in Tanzania and Britain
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament reviewed the parliamentary institution's efforts in defending Palestinian rights, noting his participation in the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, during this October. He also discussed his meeting with the Speaker of the British House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, where they discussed positions regarding the Palestinian cause, settlement expansion, and the need to translate the recognition of the State of Palestine into practical steps.
Ending the Occupation as a Necessity for Stability
Al-Yamahi considered that Israeli settlement expansion in Jerusalem and the West Bank violates international legitimacy resolutions, warning of the impact of these practices on the future of the two-state solution. He affirmed that addressing the Palestinian tragedy requires dealing with its roots by ending the Israeli occupation to ensure the protection of legitimate rights and the achievement of justice and stability.
