Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar reviewed the country's most prominent energy sector projects, pointing to the progress made in domestic oil and natural gas production, and plans to expand production capacities through advanced offshore platforms and new exploration projects inside and outside the country.

Osman Gazi Platform and Gas Production Development

The Minister indicated the start of a new phase in natural gas production via the Osman Gazi floating platform, which will allow gas processing at sea before pumping it to the Filyos facility via offshore pipelines. He explained that this platform will contribute to doubling production to reach 20 million cubic meters per day, raising the number of families benefiting from local gas to 8 million families by 2027, with plans to add a second platform to raise production to 45 million cubic meters by 2028. Regarding exploration, drilling ships continue their work in the Akçakoca well in the Black Sea with the ambition of reaching depths of up to six thousand meters.

Enhancing Oil Production Locally and Internationally

On the domestic production front, production at the Gabar field recorded high levels of 84,000 barrels per day, with plans to raise capabilities to exceed 100,000 barrels thanks to anticipated new discoveries. Adıyaman province is also witnessing an increase in production rates thanks to new discoveries. Globally, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation continues to expand its presence through partnership in the Kirkuk field in Iraq, and investing in exploration sectors in Libya, Somalia, and Pakistan, aiming to achieve the broad production strategy.

Consumption, Prices, and Nuclear Energy File

Regarding the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, the minister confirmed the approach of completing the first reactor and thousands of tests in preparation for fuel loading and starting operation before the end of the current year. Regarding government support and energy consumption, he pointed to updating electricity and gas consumption brackets to direct support to actual consumers, while emphasizing that there are no plans to increase natural gas prices at the present time, in light of the continuation of government support policies for citizens.
