Leap in petroleum product exports from India's Jamnagar refinery

Exports of petroleum products from the Jamnagar refinery and other refining units to Western countries recorded significant growth during September, according to data from a report issued by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. The value of exports rose by forty-three percent to reach about one billion euros, targeting markets that impose sanctions and bans on fuel made from processed Russian crude oil.

The report indicated that the Jamnagar refinery, owned by Reliance Industries in the Indian state of Gujarat, supplied the largest share of fuel shipments that arrived at European Union ports during the mentioned month. Despite European restrictions and regulations imposed on imports of petroleum derivatives linked to Russian crude, these facilities continued processing operations and exporting products to various global markets.

Details of export traffic and target markets

The global destinations that received the processed petroleum products varied, including European Union countries, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand. The Jamnagar refinery led export operations directed at the US market with high financial values, while shipments directed to Europe were distributed among several major ports in countries such as Italy, Romania, Spain, and Cyprus, with the continued flow of shipments via various sea tankers.

Regarding crude imports, India's total imports of Russian crude oil witnessed a decline of thirteen percent during September compared to previous months, recording a decrease for the second consecutive month and the lowest level since the spring. Despite this decline in crude imports, India maintained its advanced position as one of the most prominent importers of fossil fuels from Russia globally, as purchases included large quantities of crude in addition to coal and other energy derivatives.
