Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced the launch of the "Osman Gazi" floating production platform, describing it as an unprecedented milestone in the country's oil and gas sector history. This step represents a qualitative shift in Turkish energy strategy, as the platform allows natural gas to be processed directly offshore before being pumped through pipes extending 170 kilometers to the Filyos region and from there to the national distribution networks, instead of the previous method that relied on transporting raw gas for onshore processing.

A Qualitative Leap in Production Technology

The "Osman Gazi" platform is considered an integrated floating industrial complex consisting of 21 separate units for gas processing. It is characterized by massive engineering dimensions; its length is equivalent to three football pitches, while its flare tower stands as tall as a 40-story skyscraper. This platform is expected to contribute to doubling production volume to reach 20 million cubic meters per day, achieving production returns of up to 10 million dollars daily, while enhancing the state's ability to meet the needs of millions of families for domestic gas over the next two decades.

Expansion Plans and Production Targets

Bayraktar revealed an ambitious strategy for 2028, which includes adding a second floating production platform by the first quarter of 2028. This will raise the total daily production to 45 million cubic meters, allowing domestic gas to meet the needs of three out of every four households in Turkey. In a related context, exploration operations continue in the Black Sea using advanced vessels targeting deeper layers to search for oil indicators, in parallel with increasing production in onshore fields in Adıyaman province and the Gabar Mountain field, which is recording record production levels.

International Partnerships and Nuclear Energy Projects

Regarding external expansion, Turkey is seeking to increase its production through strategic partnerships, including a stake in Iraq's Kirkuk fields, fields in Libya, and seismic survey activities in Pakistan, to support the goal of reaching one million barrels per day for the Turkish Petroleum Corporation. As for the electricity sector, the "Akkuyu" nuclear plant is witnessing its final stages, with the fuel loading date and the start of operations approaching before the end of the year, to provide about 10% of the country's electrical energy needs, with the government confirming the stability of energy pricing policies.
