Venezuela expects to attract investments estimated at around $76 billion in the oil and gas sector over the next five years, as part of its efforts to revitalize production and exploit the country's massive crude reserve potential by attracting private capital.

Promising investment plans in the Venezuelan energy sector

Delcy Rodríguez announced these estimates during her speech at the conclusion of an energy conference held in the city of Maracaibo, capital of Zulia state, which brought together more than 150 local and international companies to discuss investment opportunities and plans to revive oil and gas production.

She explained that the government has signed 61 agreements under the new legal framework for the energy sector, while another 44 agreements are still under negotiation, aiming to integrate foreign capital with local financial and human resources to support the economy and create new, large-scale job opportunities.

Infrastructure development challenges and opportunities

The investment attraction plans seek to rebuild the energy sector, which has seen a decline in production levels compared to its historical peak, given the country's need for years of investment in exploration work, maintenance of degraded oil fields, improvement of energy systems, and development of basic infrastructure.

Venezuela faces challenges represented by investor concerns regarding legal risks and political instability, as well as technical problems related to unstable electricity supplies, aging oil extraction equipment, and shortages in services and qualified labor that could slow down the pace of operating new fields.

Despite these challenges, international companies continue to evaluate available opportunities and update the terms of joint venture projects, focusing on the importance of reforms and ongoing coordination between governments and companies to achieve long-term sustainable growth in the Venezuelan oil and gas sector.
