Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda emphasized that the Japanese economy is facing accelerating structural challenges that make achieving sustainable stability in inflation rates an urgent necessity. Ueda noted that global changes, particularly the rapid developments in artificial intelligence technologies and ongoing fluctuations in global energy prices, play a pivotal role in reshaping the domestic economic landscape.
The Bank of Japan Governor explained that the impact of energy prices on production and consumption costs remains a decisive factor in evaluating price trends. Japan's heavy reliance on energy imports makes its economy sensitive to changes in global markets, which is directly reflected in the inflation rates that the central bank seeks to guide toward specific targets ensuring economic balance.
In a related context, Ueda highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in boosting productivity, stressing that the adoption of these modern technologies could alter the nature of supply and demand in the Japanese market. Despite the positive prospects of digital transformation, there is a need to monitor how these changes affect the wage and price structure to ensure the economy remains resilient against external shocks.
Ueda's remarks come as part of the Bank of Japan's ongoing efforts to manage monetary policy flexibly, ensuring the absorption of inflationary pressures resulting from external factors, while focusing on creating a stable economic environment that supports long-term growth amid unprecedented global technological and energy shifts.
