The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation organized a specialized workshop addressing sustainability standards, with the participation of around 80 specialists representing nearly 40 of the sector's most prominent companies. This step aims to promote the concepts of sustainability, reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and raise awareness of international requirements and standards in this field.

Technical Cooperation to Develop Environmental Practices

The workshop events were held through Tanmia Petroleum Company in cooperation with TÜV Austria Egypt, a foundation specialized in testing, inspection, and certification fields. The workshop focused on the importance of keeping pace with international developments in the field of sustainability, and learning about standard specifications and their applications in the oil and gas industry activities, thereby supporting the development of environmental and climate practices for the sector's companies.

Workshop Themes and Sustainable Development Goals

The workshop, organized in coordination between the General Department of Energy Conservation and the Department of Safety and Environmental Protection at the Authority, witnessed an intensive agenda linking sustainable development goals with the energy industry. The discussions included reviewing sustainability solutions and the ISO 50001 standard for energy management systems, in addition to explaining the basic principles and determinants for calculating the carbon footprint of facilities.

Enhancing Energy Efficiency and Reducing Emissions

Engineer Mohamed Talaat, General Manager of Energy Conservation, emphasized that improving and rationalizing energy use efficiency represents the main gateway to reducing emissions and improving the carbon footprint of facilities, which is the path toward a sustainable work environment. Dr. Shaimaa Sayed, Department Manager at the Authority's Safety Department, also pointed out the necessity of cooperation and the exchange of technical expertise to increase environmental awareness, thereby supporting the petroleum sector's strategy in achieving sustainable compliance with international standards concerning the environment and climate.
