SABCA has achieved a significant milestone on its path toward environmental sustainability, having received official accreditation for its climate goals from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This accreditation includes a commitment to reduce carbon emissions by up to 79.79% regarding Scope 1 and Scope 2, reflecting the company's strategic orientation toward minimizing its environmental footprint in line with global standards for climate neutrality.

The importance of climate goal accreditation

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is the most reliable international reference for companies seeking to set realistic targets for emission reductions in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement. This accreditation aims to ensure that corporate strategies are not merely general promises, but specific and measurable scientific plans that contribute to limiting global warming.

Understanding the accredited scopes

Scope 1 refers to direct emissions resulting from sources owned or controlled by the company, such as fuel used in industrial operations or its vehicle fleet. Meanwhile, Scope 2 covers indirect emissions resulting from the company's consumption of electricity, steam, or heat purchased and generated by a third party.

The commitment to reduce these emissions by approximately 80% represents a fundamental step that requires a transformation in the energy sources used in operational processes, and an increase in reliance on energy efficiency and the shift toward renewable energy sources. This step confirms the commitment of major industrial companies to integrate environmental considerations into the core of their business models, which enhances their ability to adapt to increasing global regulatory requirements regarding environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG).
