The 9th edition of the oil and gas sector skills competition kicked off at the Petroleum College in the Ba Ria region of Ho Chi Minh City, with the participation of about 500 competitors from 17 units affiliated with the Vietnam National Energy and Industry Group (Petrovietnam). Participants competed in 16 professional specialties, an increase of 5 specialties compared to the previous edition, reflecting the group's keenness to keep pace with rapid technological developments.

Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Manager of Petrovietnam and Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the pivotal role of skilled labor in enhancing the group's competitiveness and achieving sustainable development. He pointed out that the increasing demand for highly qualified cadres has become an urgent necessity in light of the deep transformations witnessed by the energy sector, especially in the areas of digital transformation and the transition towards clean energy.

Do Chi Thanh stressed that human skills remain the cornerstone of production operations despite technological development and equipment modernization. He explained that sound decisions and practical experience of workers directly contribute to preventing accidents, ensuring safety standards, and business continuity, in addition to the role of field-derived innovations in reducing costs and raising production efficiency.

The Petrovietnam official called on the group's affiliated units to make maximum use of the competition results in formulating ambitious training and development plans. He emphasized the necessity of identifying outstanding competencies, designing specialized career paths for engineers and technicians, and generalizing successful working methods to ensure the transfer of expertise and knowledge to all the group's sectors.

This competition is a strategic platform to assess the quality of technical human resources and discover young talents, while providing a motivational environment for employees to develop their professional capabilities. The events are scheduled to continue until October 23, and are expected to contribute to promoting a culture of continuous learning and building a workforce capable of meeting future energy requirements.
