Quang Ninh Thermal Power Company has signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract worth over 3.2 trillion Vietnamese Dong, aimed at upgrading and developing the plant's waste gas treatment system to meet new environmental standards. The project is expected to enter full operation by 2027.

Details of the Environmental Upgrading Project

The contract signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the energy sector, shareholders, regulatory authorities, and funding banks. The project aims to improve the efficiency of treating exhaust gases emitted from the power plant's boilers before they are released into the environment, in compliance with new national technical standards for industrial emissions.

Key project works include upgrading and developing electrostatic precipitator systems, installing a new nitrogen oxide removal system, developing a sulfur oxide removal system, as well as replacing smoke fans with variable frequency drive motor systems, and updating related protection and safety systems to ensure stable operation.

Contractor Consortium and International Expertise

The contractor consortium implementing the project includes China's Shanghai Electric Group and the Vietnamese Pacific Joint Stock Company. Shanghai Electric Group possesses extensive experience spanning over a century in the global energy sector and specializes in the design and construction of gas treatment systems, while the Vietnamese company has long-standing experience in locally managing and developing infrastructure and energy projects.

Officials from the owner company and the implementing consortium emphasized their full commitment to the timeline, quality standards, and occupational safety, stressing that the project represents a pivotal step toward improving the plant's environmental performance, enhancing generation efficiency, and supporting national energy security in parallel with a commitment to environmental responsibility.
