Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that the volume of natural gas supplies directed to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline will reach 39 billion cubic meters this year, which significantly exceeds the quantities stipulated in the project's original contract. This high performance comes compared to the pipeline's design capacity of 38 billion cubic meters, indicating operational efficiency that exceeds original expectations and meets the growing needs of Asian markets effectively and sustainably.
Future expansion prospects
In a related context, the Russian official revealed that joint agreements have been reached aiming to expand the scope of future supplies to gradually reach 44 billion cubic meters annually. Novak emphasized the strategic importance of the success achieved in implementing the first phase of the Power of Siberia project, which has proven its efficiency to become a cornerstone and a pivotal element for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector between Moscow and Beijing over the coming years.
Strengthening strategic partnership
He explained that the increase in shipment volumes reflects the continuous rise in demand for Russian energy sources within the Chinese market, and at the same time confirms the robustness and reliability of the Russian gas sector's infrastructure and its long-distance transport operations. These developments and future plans highlight the durability of the long-term partnership between the two countries, and their ongoing readiness to enhance economic cooperation and secure stable and sustainable energy flows, which reinforces the role of energy infrastructure in supporting strategic economic relations between the two countries.
