The President of the Şanlıurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mehmet Yetim, called for the necessity of rapid intervention to address the problems of the energy sector that directly affect industrial production, emphasizing the importance of increasing the capacity of electrical transformers and addressing frequent supply interruptions.
Yetim's remarks came during his participation in the ordinary meeting of the Union of Energy Cities Council hosted by the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Nevzat Şatıroğlu, Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar, and President of the Union of Energy Cities Mehmet Sekmen, along with a number of officials and official figures.
Operational Challenges in Industrial Zones
The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry affirmed that the industrial zones in the city face clear structural challenges related to the inadequacy of electrical transformer capacity, as well as frequent disruptions in electricity supplies. He explained that these obstacles impose additional pressures on companies and factories, which necessitates accelerating the pace of infrastructure work to ensure grid stability and meet the growing needs of the productive sector.
Support for Solar Energy Investments
In a related context, Yetim touched upon the obstacles associated with the solar power plant system, pointing out that the hourly net metering system currently applied leaves negative impacts on the efficiency of companies' investments in this field. He stressed the need to formulate legislation and regulations supportive of investments dedicated to self-consumption, contributing to enhancing the economic viability of sustainable projects.
Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Industrial Sector
The head of the industrial chamber concluded by emphasizing that ensuring the continuity of production without interruption, and paving the way for pumping new investments, remains a fundamental prerequisite for raising the competitiveness of the industrial sector in Şanlıurfa. He demanded that the concerned authorities take the necessary legislative and executive steps to overcome these obstacles as soon as possible.
