Erciyes University is preparing to organize a special radio broadcast highlighting the societal dimensions of the climate crisis and the role of the media in guiding public opinion toward a sustainable future, as part of the preparatory events related to the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Dimensions of the Climate Crisis and Social Justice
The special radio program prepared by the university's Sustainability Coordination addresses environmental issues from a broader perspective that goes beyond the technical aspect, raising the issue of climate justice and social inclusion. The discussions focus on the unequal impacts of the environmental crisis on vulnerable groups, how to address these disparities within social justice frameworks, as well as the responsibility of institutions and society in building an environmentally secure future.
Preparations for the Global Climate Conference COP31
This academic activity coincides with ongoing preparations for the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, known as COP31. Turkey is scheduled to host the 31st edition of the conference, which enhances its presence in international climate diplomacy and reaffirms its commitment to enhancing global cooperation and efforts to transition towards a low-carbon economy and confront escalating environmental challenges.
The Role of Academic Media in Climate Issues
The program hosts academic figures specializing in communication and environmental media, including climate journalism researcher Meltem Şahin Hassan, to discuss the role of the media in building a more inclusive and sustainable future. The discussions shed light on how media coverage addresses climate change and environmental issues, and the ability of media discourse to stimulate societal awareness and spread accurate scientific knowledge to face contemporary environmental crises.
