The Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ) announced recent data illustrating the balance state in the national electricity grid, as the country recorded a production surplus exceeding 14,000 megavolt-hours. These figures reflect the success of the national strategy in managing energy resources, ensuring the satisfaction of growing local demand while enhancing the ability to export to neighboring regional markets.
Daily Production and Consumption Indicators
Turkey recorded a daily production reaching about 828,099 megavolt-hours of electricity, while total consumption reached about 813,265 megavolt-hours. This positive difference of 14,834 megavolt-hours confirms the flexibility of the energy infrastructure and its ability to absorb fluctuations in residential and industrial demand, while providing a surplus that enhances the country's energy security and opens the door to expanding energy export operations.
Hourly Demand Variance
The data reveals an accurate consumption pattern during the day, as peak demand recorded a level of 39,641 megavolt-hours at eight in the evening, which is the time witnessing increased uses of lighting and cooling in homes and facilities. In contrast, demand dropped to its lowest levels at 29,588 megavolt-hours at five in the dawn, a period characterized by the quietness of industrial activities and population movement, highlighting a noticeable variance in electrical loads that requires advanced technical grid management.
Diversity of Energy Mix
The results showed the Turkish grid's reliance on a diverse mix of sources, with hydroelectric power topping the production list at 21.3%, followed by imported coal power plants at 18.9%, indicating the continued role of coal in grid stability despite the global trend to reduce emissions. At the same time, solar energy achieved a prominent presence at 14.7%, reflecting the accelerating pace of transition towards renewable energy sources in the country.
This data comes within the framework of enhancing investments in clean energy, ensuring sustainable balance supporting the national economy and achieving the state's ambitious commitments in the energy sector, while maintaining the ability to interact with regional energy markets effectively.
