The Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency in Egypt has issued a package of regulatory decisions regarding the renewal of licenses to engage in the activity of producing, distributing, and selling electrical energy for a number of companies operating in the Egyptian market. This step comes within the framework of efforts aimed at controlling and regulating the electricity market, and ensuring that companies adhere to the approved technical and operational rules and standards.

The decisions, which were published in the Egyptian Official Gazette (Al-Waqa'i' Al-Misriya), as part of the proceedings of the second and third meetings of the committee for issuing license renewal certificates for the fiscal year 2026-2027, included the approval to renew the licenses of a wide range of private companies. The list of companies that received a renewal for the license to practice the activity of producing and selling electrical energy for a new year included: Enara Renewable Energy Services, Al Rabaeya Vortex Textiles, Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries, in addition to Al Karm for Electricity Sales and Distribution, Abydos Solar Energy, Travco Development, Solayla Hotels and Services, and Amaqla Tourism Development.

Strengthening oversight and ensuring regulatory compliance

In the same context, the committee approved during its third meeting the renewal of licenses for Fresh Electric Home Appliances, Solariz Cook Renewable Energy, Al Zahra for Electricity Sales and Distribution, in addition to Midor Electricity (MIDAPEC). These decisions confirm the Agency's commitment to monitoring the ongoing compliance of economic entities with the laws governing the electricity sector in Egypt, particularly Electricity Law No. 87 of 2025.

The Agency emphasized the necessity for all mentioned companies to adhere to the specified regulatory rules, while stressing the application of legal measures against any delay in license renewal. The directives issued included tasking the Agency's executive management with activating regulations for imposing fines on companies that exceed the specified timeframes for renewing licenses for business activities, to ensure the continuity of service provision efficiently in accordance with the technical and legal requirements imposed by the utility regulation, and to serve the stability of the energy sector in the state.
