The United States of America has accused the Cuban government of exploiting subsidized Venezuelan oil supplies and diverting them to international markets to achieve financial and dollar-denominated gains instead of directing them to meet urgent local needs, especially the acute energy and electricity crisis facing the island.

These statements highlighted complex commercial networks involving intermediary companies and massive oil shipments traded through Asian markets, at a time when Cuba's energy infrastructure was suffering from frequent collapses and widespread power outages that lasted for long hours, directly affecting the daily lives of citizens.

Commercial Networks and Financial Revenues

Official reports indicated that oil shipments acknowledged in the documents of the Venezuelan state oil company were not documented as having arrived at the designated Cuban ports, which raised broad questions about the fate of millions of barrels and their high financial value, estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars within a specific period.

The data indicated that a network of commercial and industrial companies played a pivotal role in transporting and trading huge quantities of crude oil to various Asian destinations, as operations were conducted through multiple commercial maneuvers to avoid international oversight and restrictions imposed on regional oil trade movement.

Repercussions of the Crisis on the Cuban Energy Sector

These operations coincided with the worsening fuel shortage crisis in Cuba, where the power generation sector witnessed a historical deficit that led to widespread outages affecting large parts of the country, at a time when Cuban families were facing difficult living conditions due to the worsening energy scarcity and the lack of basic supplies.

In the same context, US regulatory authorities imposed economic sanctions targeting figures and entities linked to those commercial and financial networks, in an effort to curb the circumvention of oil trade restrictions, dry up funding sources, and confront violations related to the management of economic assets and resources.
