Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during his visit to the Norwegian capital, Oslo, his country's immediate support for the United States' proposal regarding a ceasefire in the energy sector. This stance comes as military operations continue to have a direct impact on energy infrastructure and global markets, amidst intensive diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and resume the path to settlement.

High-Level Meetings in Oslo

The Ukrainian President held a series of intensive meetings in Oslo, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as well as the US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US Administration Advisor Jared Kushner. The discussions covered files on energy security, reconstruction plans, and future economic recovery, in addition to the international sanctions package and its broad economic and political repercussions on regional and international stability.

Repercussions of Ongoing Military Operations

Zelenskyy pointed out in a joint press conference following the talks that Ukraine is seeking peace by all means, stressing that his country has not lost the war militarily but is incurring heavy human losses as a result of ongoing attacks targeting general stability and vital infrastructure. He explained that the Russian side met the diplomatic proposals with further escalation, placing enormous pressure on resources and time, while emphasizing at the same time that diplomatic efforts will continue through new negotiation rounds over the next forty-eight hours to reach a consensual formula that ensures minimizing losses.

Expected Diplomatic Moves

For his part, the Norwegian Prime Minister described the talks as constructive and positive, announcing that the US Special Envoy is heading to Russia to meet the Russian leadership and discuss the results of the Oslo meetings related to the de-escalation track. In the same context, the Finnish President considered that the negotiation process has regained its proper course after these talks, which were attended by representatives of prominent European countries, NATO, and the European Union, amid international anticipation of the results of diplomatic contacts aimed at calming the situation in global energy markets.
