President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree allocating vast areas of land in Matrouh Governorate for renewable energy projects, in a step that reinforces the Egyptian state's efforts to expand the production of clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. The allocated area amounts to about 3,206 million square meters, which paves the way for massive investments in the green energy sector and the development of the necessary infrastructure for these strategic projects.
Broad investment horizons for clean energy projects
This step comes within the framework of the national strategy to diversify energy sources and exploit the enormous geographical potential enjoyed by regions such as Matrouh Governorate, which is an ideal environment for establishing wind and solar energy projects due to its climatic nature and favorable topography. Through these allocations, the state aims to attract more specialized investments in the sustainable energy sector and enhance partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Supporting the green transition and sustainable development
The renewable energy sector in Egypt seeks to achieve ambitious strategic goals to reach high percentages of electricity production from clean sources, in line with future plans and government directives to confront the challenges of climate change. These major projects contribute to creating an investment-attractive environment, which supports the journey of sustainable development in various Egyptian governorates. Matrouh Governorate plays a pivotal role in these plans due to its natural components that qualify it to be one of the most prominent regions for intensive production of sustainable energy in the near future.
