The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, presented a detailed briefing before the Finance and Budget Committee of the People's National Assembly, revealing the proposed budget for the energy sector for the year 2027, which totaled 123.4 billion Algerian dinars. This step comes within the framework of discussing the draft finance law for 2027, reflecting the sector's strategic orientation towards enhancing energy infrastructure and supporting the transition to clean energies.
Allocation of Financial Provisions for Energy Programs
The proposed budget is based on three main pillars: 93.89 billion dinars have been allocated to the electricity and gas program, which aims to continue comprehensive connection operations and complete current programs to enhance coverage in urban and industrial areas. In a move aimed at enhancing the energy transition, 24.06 billion dinars have been allocated to the energy control program and supporting new and renewable energy projects, while an amount of 5.6 billion dinars has been allocated to enhance general administration and rehabilitate administrative structures, especially in newly created provinces.
Support for the Energy Bill and Future Investments
As part of the sector's commitments towards citizens, the project included the allocation of 25.5 billion dinars to support the electricity bill in the southern and high plateau provinces, continuing the social policy aimed at easing burdens on the residents of these areas. On the other hand, the minister revealed a massive investment plan for the Sonelgaz group for 2027 estimated at 624 billion dinars, directed mainly to enhance electricity production capacities.
Sonelgaz Strategic Projects
Sonelgaz's investment plan includes the completion of pioneering solar energy projects, in addition to bringing new generation plants into service in the provinces of Djelfa, Oumache 3, and Mostaganem, with a total capacity reaching 1,378 megawatts. Future aspirations also include launching a package of new electricity generation projects in Tébessa, Adrar, and Tamanrasset, which contributes to meeting the growing demand for energy and enhancing national energy security across the country.
