The relevant authorities in Vietnam have announced a new plan for managing gasoline and diesel prices, including setting new maximum fuel prices and activating the price stabilization fund mechanisms, in conjunction with ongoing developments in global energy markets.
Price Developments and Causes of Global Volatility
The global oil market has been affected recently by several key factors, most notably geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflicts, as well as currency exchange rate fluctuations. These factors have been reflected in the average prices of refined petroleum products in international markets, leading to variations in the movement of petroleum derivative prices, both upward and downward, depending on the type of fuel.
New Domestic Fuel Prices
Based on economic data and regulated market mechanisms, it was decided that the selling prices of commonly consumed petroleum products would be subject to a new maximum limit. Prices for E5 RON 92 gasoline and E10 RON 95 gasoline saw a noticeable decline compared to previous periods, while prices for diesel fuel and fuel oil recorded slight increases to suit changes in basic costs and tax input factors.
Using the Stabilization Fund and Ensuring Supplies
As part of its efforts to maintain a balance of interests between various parties involved in the market and to protect consumers, government agencies have activated measures to allocate and use the fuel price stabilization fund, which is partially funded by the general budget. This step aims to absorb part of the global price shocks and prevent sharp fluctuations in the local market.
The relevant regulatory authorities continue to monitor the compliance of fuel distribution and trading companies with the established regulations and ensure sufficient supplies to meet the needs of the local market, while taking the necessary measures to ensure the stability of the energy sector.
