The Sun Prairie Police Department announced the arrest of two individuals on charges of stealing cooking oil from a restaurant, an incident revealed by security surveillance cameras.

Details of the theft incident

The incident began when police received a report regarding a theft at a restaurant on Windsor Street. Security camera footage at the facility showed two men removing used cooking oil from a closed collection container located behind the building. The suspects left the scene in a white van late at night.

Arrest of the suspects and evidence seized

Police were able to intercept a van matching the description at the intersection of North Bird Street and Windsor Street just minutes after the incident. During a search of the van, officers found six large containers in the cargo area containing used cooking oil, as well as a generator and a hose system used to pump the oil. Tools were also seized inside the van, which are believed to have been used to force open the oil containers.

Legal proceedings

Guang Guo Li, 48, of Oshkosh, and Zheng Wei Shu, 42, of Chicago, were arrested and transported to the Dane County Jail. Investigations revealed that the suspects did not have authorization to collect oil from the restaurant in question. The van has been impounded as evidence in the case, and charges of theft of movable property and possession of burglary tools have been referred to the Dane County District Attorney's Office, while investigations are ongoing to determine if there were other thefts at different locations.
