Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, revealed the Egyptian state's direction toward allocating huge investments amounting to 200 billion pounds, with the aim of developing and enhancing national electricity networks. This project comes within a comprehensive strategy aiming to prepare the necessary infrastructure to absorb the large expansion in new and renewable energy projects, leading to the achievement of the national target of having renewable energy represent 45% of the total energy mix by the year 2028.
Enhancing Energy Infrastructure
The Prime Minister explained that the expansion plan in the energy sector is not limited only to building new generation plants, whether relying on solar or wind energy, but extends to include the modernization and expansion of electricity transmission networks. These networks are considered the backbone of the stability of the electrical system, as they ensure the efficiency of transmitting energy produced from plants to consumption centers, which is vital to ensure the stability of the national grid and its ability to absorb additional capacities that will enter service in the coming years.
Strategy of Transition Towards Clean Energy
Dr. Moustafa Madbouly pointed out that the government is working based on the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to study the full cost of energy projects, with a special focus on the infrastructure, which is considered a crucial factor in the success of energy transition plans. Pumping these investments reflects the state's vision in securing the country's future energy needs, in parallel with the global trend towards reducing emissions and relying on clean and sustainable energy sources.
These efforts come within the framework of dealing with global economic variables, as the state seeks to balance the expansion of major national projects with the careful and responsible management of financial resources. It is expected that the development of networks will lead to raising operational efficiency and reducing current losses, which enhances the readiness of the electricity sector to support Egypt's comprehensive economic development plans during the coming phase.
