Leading Italian engineering, drilling, and construction services company Saipem announced the expansion of its operations in the Middle East and North Africa region through a strategic partnership with the Modern Company for Drilling (MDC) in Egypt.
Strategic Cooperation Targeting Offshore Drilling Opportunities
This non-exclusive partnership comes through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at exploring cooperation opportunities in offshore drilling, starting with the Egyptian market with the potential to expand to include other countries in the region within the scope of mutual interest between the two parties. This agreement aims to lay the groundwork for identifying and developing new business initiatives in the offshore drilling services sector.
Flexible Cooperation Models and Joint Management
The two companies will work to determine the optimal cooperation model for each upcoming opportunity, which includes evaluating the possibility of establishing joint ventures, alliances, or entering into project-specific agreements. To ensure the effectiveness of this cooperation, a joint coordination committee will be formed to oversee market developments, identify projects of mutual interest, and chart future steps for cooperation.
Exchange of Expertise and Enhancing Regional Presence
The scope of the agreement is not limited to operational aspects only, but may extend to include the exchange of expertise and technical knowledge, providing support in project execution, in addition to asset management activities and training services. This step contributes to strengthening Saipem's position in the strategic Egyptian market and leveraging new industrial synergies to seize growth opportunities in the offshore energy sector.
