President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that the Egyptian state bears the largest part of the actual cost of providing energy, especially in light of the noticeable rise in energy prices at the global level. This came during his participation in a panel discussion as part of the Egypt 2026 Forum, entitled "Egypt's Energy Journey.. National Achievements and Future Horizons."

Energy Sector Achievements and Securing Supplies

The panel discussion witnessed a comprehensive review of the work path in the energy sector over the past years, highlighting the successes achieved in enhancing and strengthening the national electricity transmission grid. These efforts aim to increase the grid's capacity to accommodate renewable energy and feed various development projects, in addition to developing electricity distribution networks to ensure performance efficiency.

The discussions also addressed the state's success in halting the decline in natural gas production and restoring growth rates, which contributed to securing the needs of all state sectors and enhancing capabilities for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the increasing requirements in the local market.

Geopolitical Challenges and Strategic Planning

The forum participants discussed a set of existing challenges, led by global and regional geopolitical unrest and its impact on supply chains, and how to take the necessary measures to mitigate the repercussions of these crises. President Sisi explained that the goal of the forum is to clarify the facts to citizens regarding the challenges facing the energy sector, while emphasizing the state's keenness to ensure the availability of all energy sources continuously.

He pointed out that the state began implementing a comprehensive plan in 2014 to face the energy crises it faced in previous years, with a focus on building integrated infrastructure that relies on both traditional and renewable energy sources. He explained that building power plants requires taking into account multiple costs, including the construction of networks, control and distribution stations, in addition to challenges associated with international conditions.

Social Awareness and the Investment Cycle

President Sisi stressed the importance of public awareness regarding all aspects of the energy sector, pointing out that investments in this field are characterized by a long time frame to achieve returns, as major energy auctions may take five to seven years to begin showing tangible results on the ground.
