Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held an expanded meeting with ministry leaders and heads of authorities and holding companies to discuss activating a new mechanism for the career succession system. This step aims to broaden the selection base for leadership positions and maximize the benefit from distinguished human energies within the sector.

Enhancing the Principles of Merit and Equal Opportunities

Through developing the competency management system, the ministry aims to entrench the principles of equal opportunities and enhance a culture of merit and worth. These orientations stem from the belief that the petroleum sector possesses a real wealth of promising talents and expertise, as discovering these energies and providing pathways for growth represents a fundamental pillar for building the sector's future and ensuring its sustainability.

A New Mechanism to Discover and Develop Talents

The new mechanism relies on objective criteria including job requirements suitability, technical and administrative competencies, performance level, and the ability to achieve results. The system includes leaders at various organizational levels, starting from heads of authorities and holding companies down to general managers, submitting three nominations of qualified cadres for each job position, which ensures providing multiple alternatives and enhancing comparison between candidates.

Axes of Building the Competencies Database

The philosophy of the system goes beyond merely identifying alternatives to include building an integrated talent base across three main axes: first, job performance evaluation to measure achievement; second, establishing a competencies bank containing distinguished elements in various specializations; and third, providing continuous rehabilitation and training programs to develop leadership and technical capabilities in coordination with competency management units.

Investing in the Human Element

These efforts seek to transform career succession into a comprehensive system to refine capabilities and prepare cadres for the future, ensuring placing the right person in the right place. This step confirms that investing in humans is the most important pillar to ensure the sustainability of institutional performance and enhance the petroleum sector's ability to face challenges and achieve future targets.
