Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, affirmed that the electricity sector is adopting an integrated strategy to raise the efficiency of transmission and distribution networks, pointing out that technical loss rates in electricity transmission lines do not exceed 5%, a rate that is commensurate with recognized global averages.
Efforts to reduce losses in distribution networks
The Minister explained that technical losses in distribution networks amount to about 10%, confirming the continuation of work to reduce these percentages through periodic maintenance programs and raising the efficiency of electrical networks in various governorates. He pointed out that improving the efficiency of transmission and distribution networks represents one of the main axes for developing the electricity system in Egypt, which supports the efficiency of energy use and reduces waste in general.
Facing power theft and applying laws
The Minister of Electricity pointed out that dealing with the loss file requires a precise distinction between technical losses associated with the nature of network operation, and non-technical losses resulting from electric current theft and assaults on equipment and the network, which does not exceed 7%. He stressed the continuation of confronting these assaults firmly by applying the regulating laws to violators, to preserve the sector's resources and the stability of the supply system.
Energy sector development and future horizons
These statements came during the Minister's participation in a session titled The Journey of Egyptian Energy National Achievements and Future Horizons, within the activities of the fourth day of the Egypt 2026 Forum. The session discussed the development of the energy sector and what has been achieved in the fields of electricity, new and renewable energy, future expansion plans, and challenges associated with securing the country's needs, in the presence of a number of officials to enhance the integration of economic and energy policies.
